The original homestead of the farm was at Gypsy Wood near Dunnington. The farms acreage was around 147 and was sold in 1953.
The farm was set up by Mr Jack L Fridlington grandfather to Stuart and great grandfather to Callum. The farm was comprised by eight farms originally covering 2,000 acres but farmed as one unit, and with one exception all the farms adjoined each other.
It was in 1939 that Jack who had always been connected with agriculture and whose family had farmed for many years in the Dunnington area took over Low Roans Farm, Strensall. This was followed by White Carr (1943), Plantation Farm (1945), Murton Farm (1946), Brown Moor (1946), High Roans (1950), Lilling Green (1953) and Cornborough Farm (1954).
These farms were far from being “ready-made” when Jack took them over. In some instances, the farms were near derelict, hedges were over-grown, some of the land was not drained at all and other places the system was inadequate; drains were blocked and soil poor.
He brought all these farms up to standard by vast capital expense, careful husbandry and planning. Miles of farm roads was built to give easy access to the cropping land and capable to this day of carrying heavy machinery.
From Jack, Stuart took over in 1980 at the age of 23 and with the help of foreman Biddy and farm manager Frank Couch helped maintain and build onto Jack’s legacy. Stuart built up the pig number into a 1,000 sow unit with its own wet feed mill and grew the potato enterprise up to 900 acres planted with 8,000 tonnes worth of storage.
In 2014, Callum joined the business and has a great interest in precision farming, husbandry and increasing the efficiency of the arable side. With this the farm is increasing it’s potato storage capacity to 11,000 tonnes and relies more on rotating its grasslands to aid in the farms organic matter as the farm is 80% light sand.

The first land farmed at Fridlington Farms was that of Low Roans but the land wasn’t bought till 1939 and came to 306 acres.
